    Pulled Pork Barbeque Sandwiches

    Pulled Pork Barbeque Sandwiches

    This is a great to serve at a backyard summer barbeque - I get rave reviews whenever I serve it!!


    * For the Rub:
    * 1 tablespoon paprika
    * 1 tablespoon firmly packed brown sugar
    * 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
    * 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
    * 1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
    * 1 teaspoon kosher salt
    * 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
    * 1 boneless pork shoulder roast (boston butt) 4 to 5 pounds, rolled & tied
    * Hamburger buns
    * Coleslaw (Optional)

    Directions

    -In a small bowl combine rub ingredients
    -Coat roast evenly with the rub
    - Allow to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before grilling or baking
    - Grill ( or bake covered at 350 degrees ) fat side up, over indirect medium heat until internal temperature reaches 185-190, 3 to 4 hours
    - The meat should be so tender it falls apart easily
    - Remove from grill ( or oven ), cover with foil and rest 20-30 minutes
    - Meanwhile make the sauce you prefer

    - ~~ HOT PEPPER VINEGAR SAUCE
    * 1 1/2 cups cider vinegar
    * 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    * 1 teaspoon tabasco sauce
    * 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
    * kosher salt
    * fresh ground black pepper
    - In a medium saucepan combine all sauce ingredients, including salt & pepper to taste.
    - Bring to a boil.
    - Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 10 minutes
    - Keep warm

    ~~BARBEQUE SAUCE
    3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
    1/4 cup minced yellow onion
    2 cups ketchup
    2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    1/2 cup yellow mustard
    1/2 cup cider vinegar
    2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon tabasco

    - In small saucepan over medium high heat melt butter and cook onion, stirring occasionally until translucent, 4 -5 minutes
    - Add the rest of the sauce ingredients and bring to boil
    - Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes or longer.
    - Set aside

    - Thinly slice, chop or pull the pork meat into shreds with your fingers, or two forks.
    - Discard any bits of fat.
    - Moisten the meat with a little of the sauce and mix in a bowl.
    - Grill or broil the buns until lightly toasted, about 40 seconds
    - Serve the pulled pork with sauce on the side.
    - Add a scoop of coleslaw to the sandwich if desired. We serve with coleslaw on the side.

    I made pulled pork recently using one of Tyler Florence's recipes, but I wasn't super happy with how it came out. I have a pork shoulder in my freezer now -- I think I am going to try this recipe out on it. I'll let you know how it comes out. Sounds great though. :-)

    That sounds great! Did you use that recipe for Memorial Weekend?
