Nuts are nourishing little bundles, but don't go completely nuts over including them in your diet. They are about 80 percent fat (translation: high in calories) and should be eaten in moderation. But the fat in nuts is described as "good fat."
Studies have found that the unsaturated fats in nuts help to lower levels of harmful cholesterol in the blood. Nuts are also a good plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids, the same good fatty acids found in fish such as salmon.
Dietary guidelines suggest eating 1 to 2 ounces of nuts (a small handful) a day.
